Willits Branch Refresh & ADA Upgrade Project Moves Forward
Investing in service for all for years to come.

The Mendocino County Board of Supervisors voted on Tuesday, October 6 to approve the Library’s 10-year Capital Investment Plan and the revised budget for the Willits Branch Refresh and ADA Upgrade Project. The project will use Measure O funds to remodel the Willits Branch Library and implement ADA upgrades that will improve accessibility, functionality, and the overall patron experience.

“The Willits Library is an important community space serving the North County,” said Library Director Mellisa Hannum. “Investing in library facilities contributes to community infrastructure, providing equitable access to information, learning opportunities, digital tools, and skill‑building resources, ensuring that the library can continue serving as an inclusive, accessible gateway to opportunity. This upgrade will result in a branch everyone can use and will serve Mendocino County for years to come.”

The Willits Branch Refresh and ADA Upgrade Project implements priority improvements identified in the Mendocino County Facilities Condition Assessment and recommended in the Library’s Strategic Plan and by the Library Advisory Board. As this nearly 40-year-old facility continues to age, these improvements are essential to ensure ADA accessibility, improve the patron experience, address long-term energy and maintenance costs, and invest in the needed maintenance to extend the Willits Branch’s operational life. Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors vote also expanded the project’s scope and budget to include ADA‑compliant parking, walkways, restrooms, and an upgraded entrance, as well as new flooring, lighting, HVAC systems, windows, interior ceiling treatments, an outdoor patio, and furnishings.

The Library looks forward to advancing this project over the next two years using proceeds from the Measure O sales tax reserved for capital investments in Library facilities. For more information, please view www.mendolibrary.org or contact the Mendocino County Library at (707) 234-2873.
