"In November 2024, Priscilla Hunter, elder and leader of the Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians sadly passed away. But she left behind a remarkable record of how her tribe rejuvenated its cultural practices and became an important source of housing, education, environmental protection, gaming, and Big Time ceremonies. The book is called The Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians: Building a Tribal Nation .
Kim Bancroft, local writer and historian, interviewed Priscilla, her family, friends, and associates for many years to gather stories about this now legendary leader and the changes that her extended family helped bring about to create a new and vibrant tribal nation at Coyote Valley.
In her talk, Kim will explain both how she and Priscilla worked together to collect interviews, as well as Kim's writing process to move from interviews to narrative chapters."
